This young pinot noir features a slightly thicker consistency than you might expect, along with a beautiful ruby red color. The nose opens with many red fruits like cherry and rhubarb, as well as some plum, but quickly develops to show sweeter spices like vanilla and anise.
On the palate: the wine is medium-bodied and decently balanced, though its alcohol content does stick out a bit (even at only 13%, which is not atypical for a pinot noir). While its acid and smoothness are both fairly moderate, this wine features good saltiness (aka minerality, sapidity) and some smooth tannins, which are surprising for a young pinot noir.
With red fruit still showing through the finish, the quality of this wine is pretty good– especially considering it is a French table wine (meaning it is not classified) that costs only $10 – $12. As it is meant for easy-drinking, we’d recommend pairing this wine with a juicy rotisserie chicken or a lighter lunch-time panini. It would also work well with mild cheeses and crackers.
